He lived in St. Petersburg. No later than 1 January 2014, he was put under surveillance, his email correspondence was viewed, and his phone conversations were tapped. On 17 June 2017, he was detained in Dagestan, after which he was taken into custody in St. Petersburg on charges of participation in the activities of an extremist organisation. On 23 April 2019, the court sentenced him to three years in a general regime colony. In June 2019, he was released from prison.
