In February 2026, the law enforcement-affiliated Telegram channel Operative Reports reported that a case of justification of terrorism had been opened against him because of his statements in support of Atesh, a guerrilla movement created in September 2022 by Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars.

The Operative Bulletins channel published a video in which Gorelov says he supports Ukraine.
