Biography
Correspondent of The Wall Street Journal. He was detained on 29 March 2023 in Yekaterinburg, where he was working on a material about the public attitude to the PMC "Wagner", after which he was taken to Moscow, where he was taken into custody. The materials of the case are almost completely classified. According to the publication where the journalist works, he was under surveillance even before his detention. Yevgeny Smirnov, a lawyer for First Department, stressed that this is the first criminal case of espionage against a foreign journalist in the Russian Federation.
