Coordinator of the anti-war movement "Viasna". He was detained in St. Petersburg on 7 May 2022 after searches and taken to Moscow. On 10 May, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions in the case of participation in the activities of NGOs that infringe on the rights of citizens, because of his involvement in the movement "Viasna". In May 2023, Zateyev was reclassified from participation in NPO activities to creation of such an organisation. On 6 June 2023, Zateyev was again detained in St. Petersburg after a search and taken to Moscow. Here he was charged with the creation of an extremist community and dissemination of disrespectful information about the days of military glory by a group of persons. On 8 June, he was taken into custody. In October 2023, Zateev was fined 30 thousand rubles because of the lack of "foreign agent" labelling on his publications (part 4 of article 19.34 of the Administrative Code). According to Roskomnadzor, Zateev published posts in the Viasna movement's Telegram channel, which was recognised as a "foreign agent", without the appropriate markings. The criminal cases were merged. Zateev initially gave a confession, but on 16 October 2024 he retracted it. He said he did not testify against the other defendants in the cases but betrayed his ideals, including calling the anti-war movement "an anti-Russian policy financed and managed by political forces from Ukraine." On 8 April 2026, Zateyev was sentenced to six years and two months in a general regime colony. The court ruled out the charge of creating an NGO that infringes on the personality and rights of citizens due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
