A case was initiated against him for discrediting the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. In January 2023, Voronezh journalist Fyodor Orlov was searched as part of this case. In March, the search again came to Karpov's parents. The activist was put on a wanted list. In September 2023, Karpov was added to the register of "foreign agents".
