In July 2018, a search took place, during which Kogut's laptop was seized. In February 2019, an investigator called Kogut and promised to return the laptop. On 6 February, after Kogut appeared at the investigative department of the Kemerovo Region FSSB, he was detained. Two days later, the court decided to send him under house arrest on charges of participation in the activities of an extremist organisation. Later he was released on his own recognisance.
On 10 September 2020, he was sentenced to two and a half years suspended sentence.
