Igor Ranav

Resident of Pevek (Chukotka), entrepreneur. He was involved in popularising local culture, developing tourism in the region, and tried to draw the attention of the authorities to food shortages, lack of qualified medical care, and other problems. In August 2025, the Investigative Committee reported that a case of desecration of the symbol of military glory was brought against Ranav because of the publication in 2022 of a picture with an obscene word written over the "St George's ribbon". The entrepreneur chose a preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions. The case first came to court in Chukotka, but then it was transferred to Moscow, as the investigation found that the entrepreneur was there at the time of publication of the picture. On 18 February 2026, Ranav was sentenced to two years in a penal colony.
