On 23 April 2019, detained in Mineralnye Vody on suspicion of involvement in an attack on police officers during a rally against the transfer of land to Chechnya on 27 March in Magas. On 25 April, he was sent to a pre-trial detention centre in Nalchik.
On 5 March 2020, he was sentenced to a year and nine months in an open prison. On 13 April, the court of appeal left the sentence unchanged, but, unlike the court of first instance, found a political motive in Katsiev's actions. On 15 April he was released.
