On 2 May 2019, law enforcement agencies detained Mustafa on a charge of using violence against a government official, dangerous to life and health. A court placed him into custody. Later, officers reclassified the charge to non-dangerous violence, softening the accusation.

A prosecutor's office appealed the courts' decisions in first and appellate instances. In June, a court of cassation instance canceled them and sent the case for review. On 18 August, a court sentenced Vyshegurov to a year and a month of general regime colony, which he had already managed to serve.
