A resident of Kansk (Krasnoyarsk region), Uvarov was a minor at the time his prosecution began. He was detained in June 2020 shortly after he and Denis Mikhailenko posted leaflets in the city in support of Azat Miftakhov and those convicted in the "Network" case. On 10 June, Uvarov was taken into custody on charges of undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist attacks. In November, a case regarding participation in a terrorist community was opened. As evidence of his guilt, the investigation cited correspondence about blowing up an FSB building within the video game Minecraft, though these details were ultimately excluded from the final indictment. Uvarov and other defendants were accused of manufacturing Molotov cocktails with the intent to seize the FSB building in Kansk. In March 2021, the charge of participating in a terrorist community was dropped. On 4 May, Uvarov was released from custody. However, on 10 February 2022, he was sentenced to five years in a general-regime penal colony.

In October 2023, it was decided to transfer Uvarov from a juvenile correctional facility to a general-regime penal colony until he reaches the age of 19.

In February 2026, it was reported that a new case had been initiated against Uvarov for participation in an extremist organisation, specifically the "AUE" movement. According to Novaya Gazeta, criminal subculture was alien to Nikita Uvarov both before and during his imprisonment. Furthermore, Penal Colony No. 31, where he served his sentence, is considered a "red" colony, meaning it lacks a traditional prison hierarchy and customs.

The propaganda TV channel Ren-TV aired a video featuring a prisoner, identified as Uvarov's cellmate, who described Uvarov’s alleged commitment to illegal groups involved in sabotage—a description that does not align with the typical "AUE" subculture. According to the cellmate: "The convict Nikita Uvarov told other convicts how he went against the special services and the authorities at the age of 14. He said that groups should be created... some legal, others illegal. The legal ones would be involved in posting leaflets and so on... and the illegal ones would organise all sorts of sabotage, well, to go against the authorities... Uvarov talked about Stepan Bandera; he was fascinated by how he prepared for torture, driving nails under his fingernails so that when the special services interrogated him, he wouldn't reveal anything that was being prepared. Not only has he not reformed, he has become even more hostile toward the authorities and everything else; he’s embittered against everyone. ...When he gets out, I think he will commit even more crimes related to terrorist and extremist activities".
