He was subjected to administrative detention on 31 October 2010 during a rally in Gostiny Dvor in St. Petersburg as part of the campaign for freedom of assembly "Strategy-31"; on 1 November Petrov's home was searched; on 9 November he was charged under part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code (participation in the activities of an extremist organisation); on 11 September 2012, the court granted a motion to dismiss the criminal case due to the expiration of the statute of limitations; Petrov's last "criminal" episode in the case was dated 31 August 2010 (detention at the "Strategy-31" rally),
