In April 2015, he was detained after a search and arrested together with four others on charges of participation in the activities of the terrorist organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir; charged with participation in the activities of an extremist (Article 282.2, Part 2) and terrorist organisation (Article 205.5, Part 2). On 12 May 2016, he was sentenced to five years in prison. He was released in April 2020.
