Alexander Vasilyev, a resident of Kaluga, was beaten during a search after being targeted over an anti-war comment on Telegram. This was reported by the “Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial” project.

On 12 September, the 57-year-old Kaluga resident was sent to a pre-trial detention centre on charges of justifying terrorism online (part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Russian Criminal Code). The day before, his home was searched. According to the project, Vasilyev was beaten even though he did not resist.

The outlet “7×7” notes that Alexander Vasilyev has criticised the war since 2022. In 2010, he ran for the Kaluga regional legislative assembly as a candidate from the Yabloko party.
