The Central District Military Court has sentenced 59-year-old Aleksandr Neustroev to four and a half years in a strict regime penal colony on charges of justifying terrorism. This was reported by SOTAvision and Mediazona.

According to investigators, in April 2025, in the presence of eight convicted people, he made approving remarks about the killings of propagandists Vladlen Tatarsky and Darya Dugina. The defendant fully admitted guilt. His defence asked for a suspended sentence, noting that Neustroev has liver cirrhosis and a third-degree disability.

“I sincerely regret what I have done. I have reconsidered my worldview and fully support the policy of the Russian Federation and the president. The crime I committed is the biggest mistake of my life, and it will not happen again,” he told the court.

Before this, the Yekaterinburg resident was in a settlement-type colony, serving a three-year sentence for his first case. Last year, he was convicted under the article on hooliganism with threats of violence due to hatred (points “a” and “b” of part 1 of article 213 of the Criminal Code).

The first case was initiated after Neustroev shouted at a boy running past in a hat with the letter Z: “Fucking hell, shove that hat up your arse, you idiot. Tell your parents, idiot. Call your father here.” The boy told his mother about the incident, after which she went to the police. The boy’s father turned out to be a military officer and a participant in the “special military operation.” Neustroev was soon detained and forced to apologise on camera.

The Yekaterinburg resident was convicted in this case only on the second attempt. At the first hearing, the court terminated the case, citing Neustroev’s “active repentance,” and fined him 7,000 rubles (about US$80). However, after pro-government bloggers and deputies expressed outrage at the decision, the case was reopened and returned to court for a new hearing.
