A book about the ideas of feminist Simone de Beauvoir has been published in Russia with entire lines blacked out. This was reported by Mediazona.
The book by American author Skye Cleary, “Thirst for Authenticity: How Simone de Beauvoir’s Ideas Help Us Become Ourselves,” released by the publisher Alpina Non-Fiction, is missing some quotations that the publishers have obscured with black bars. A note at the bottom of the pages explains that this is a requirement of the law banning the “promotion of non-traditional relationships and gender transition.”
Skye Cleary is a philosopher who teaches at Columbia University (USA). In her book “Thirst for Authenticity,” she examines how the thoughts and views of Simone de Beauvoir—a renowned French existentialist and a key figure in the feminist movement—can provide support in overcoming life’s difficulties and help people find their way through challenging situations.
